A decade to celebrate

10 years ago, a skinny boy took a freckle-face girl to watch the lamest Chinese ghost story ever, "Dail D for Demon". During that movie, the skinny boy whispered into the girl's ear and asked her, "Do you want to be my girlfriend?". The freckle-face girl giggled and whispered, "Yes".

And that was the best decision that girl ever made in her life.

Happy 10th Anniversary, skinny boy. The freckle-face girl will love you always.

Cards

I love getting cards. Every since I was young, I've been collecting birthday cards, valentine day cards, festive greeting cards. I just love feeling all nostalgic when I go through all my cards, each representing a year in my life.

Only problem is that I've got bad memory recognizing them. I once bought my mum the same card two years in a row. She noticed, I didn't (very bad, very bad). And there was once, much to the dismay of the sister, I bought her the exact same birthday card she bought me. And our birthdays are only two months apart.

Yesterday I was looking for something in the drawer where I keep all my cards. Saw a Valentine's day card and was a little confused. "Yin How, which year this you buy this card for me?" Before he could open his mouth, I threatened, "Did you buy me a Valentine's day card for tomorrow?"

The hubby gave me a dirty look. "That IS the Valentine's day card for tomorrow laaaa".

I immediately transformed from threatening-wife to lovable-giggly-girl. Took the card and skipped all the way to the bookshelf and proudly displayed the card.

It's so easy to please a women. And you men say women are complicated. I think you're just not trying hard enough. Hmphhh.

Happy Valentine's Day!

:)

BTW, why am I still at home blogging on the morning of CNY? Because all the hubby's obsessive preparation for this day has worn him out, so he's still in bed sleeping right now. ;)

Dearest hubby

Dearest hubby,

Happy Birthday.

Why haven't you grown any wrinkles, white hair or a big belly yet? I need you to look older so that I can look younger.

Love,
Your wife

BTW, the plan to go out with my colleagues for dinner on your birthday wasn't real and was all part of the plan to surprise you and take you out for dinner instead.

You didn't think your wife would actually forget your birthday right?

*wink*

It's my birthday today... Woo Hoo?

Normally birthdays are a big thing to me. Since I was a kid, birthdays meant a lot of me. Maybe it's because it's a day I receive presents and a birthday cake. Or maybe it's because it's the day I feel like the most special person in the world. Or maybe it was because it was the day I felt my parents loved me a little more.

And all this while, I always looked forward to my birthday. One or two months before my birthday, I'll start bugging Yin How, "Watcha gonna buy for me?", giving him my best puppy look eyes.

It's different this year. I'm starting to feel like I'm running out of time to do the things that I want to do. It's an reminder that I've been stuck in one place for too long. It's an indication that I'm restless to move on to the next stage of my life.

I didn't even remember that my birthday was coming until somebody wished me Happy Birthday on Facebook two days in advance. And for the first time, I chose to come to work instead of taking a day off.

So anyway... when I woke up thinking that if I almost forgot about my own birthday, the whole world, except my bank and insurance company, would forget as well.. Heard my handphone ringing with messages early in the morning and was happy to find it was a friend instead.

Came to work there was a pretty handmade birthday card waiting for me. And it was made in brown knowing that brown is my favourite color. Received birthday calls/messages from friends (one all the way from China) and my sister. Even more on Facebook. And a slice of yummy cake from colleagues.

Feeling a bit more happier.... but WAIT.....

Has the hubby wished me happy birthday yet???? *dramatic background music*

I woke up in the morning looking for a birthday card (no matter whether it's rainy or sunny or whether the whole earth is coming to an end, it's compulsory for the hubby to get me a birthday card). Not only was there no birthday card, but there was no hubby sleeping next to me. *Gasp*. He was sleeping on the sofa outside and didn't wake up when I left for work

Somewhere in the background I heard someone yelling.... STRIKE ONE!

At work, I called him to ask him whether he was feeling well (also secretly hoping he'll remember my birthday), since he looked a little sick on the sofa. He said he was feeling a little unwell in the morning but was okay now. I waited a while giving him a chance to wish me happy birthday.... but he didn't.

STRIKE TWO!

He called back again. I was thinking... he finally remembered. He went on talking about his colleague's birthday this Friday. His tenant at his other house. And some other stuff at work. Still no happy birthday.

STRIKE THREE!

Even an optical shop where I purchased a pair of glass 4 years ago and never went back remembered to send me an birthday sms... Geez, what is wrong with the HUBBY??

Rule number 1. Never forget a woman's birthday. She may forget about it herself, but it's no excuse for the man.
Rule number 2. A woman has an excellent memory when it comes to tracking of how strikes a man made.

The time is 2:15pm. Let's see how many strikes he is gonna get by the end of the day.

(BTW, I secretly thinks that he remembers my birthday but is purposely acting like he forgot to annoy me. But if he really has forgotten, it's not a big deal... I think... however with the excellent memory a woman has been blessed with, it's certain that this will be brought up again and again for many years to come)

;)

*****Update*****

After 5pm with no Happy Birthday wishes from the hubby, I received a call from him, "Black or White shoe?"

"Huh?"

"Black or White shoe??" sounding more embarrassed now...

Apparently the hubby confidently went into Vincci wanting to buy me the pair of shoes which I mentioned I liked last weekend. But of course, nothing in life can be that simple. So of course the shoe which I said I liked had sold out. And suddenly the hubby was standing in Vincci surrounded by hundreds of shoes of different types and colors to choose from.

He ended up calling me numerous times, and sending me photos of different shoes before he chose one to buy for me. So much for a surprise huh.

But picturing him helpless and alone in a woman's shoe shop trying to buy me a pair of shoes is already the present itself. I was touched. :)

One year ago...

There was cake

There were balloons

There were favours

And wonderful friends and family

I held his hand

And together we danced our butts away to the Bee Gees, MJ, Chicken Dance and lots more.

Can't believe one year has passed since. Time sure flies... :)

Welcome, little one

Hello, little U-Shern. Welcome to this world.

I went over to visit the happy but tired mother. When I reached there, I was lucky enough to see the nurse pushing U-Shern out from the room back to the nursery but couldn't take out my camera fast enough. Little U-Shern is actually quite a big baby boy. :)

The happy new father wanted to make the tired new mother happy by buying instant noodles for her but ended up getting scolded that instant noodles are not exactly the best thing for a recovering mother to be eating right now... hehehehe...

Congratulations Shu-Yin and Peter!~~ I can't believe my childhood friend has a child of her own. I can't wait to carry U-Shern one day. :)

Dearest hubby

Even after 9 years, it's the little things like squeezing together on the sofa while watching TV which make the best moments of the day.

I enjoyed the wonderful dinner by the beach today. Even though we didn't stay long because you had to pee!

Happy 9th anniversary hubby. :)

Why I love Yin How

  1. Because he rubs my tummy when i have a tummy ache (after I force him to do so)
  2. Because he makes a cup of Milo when I'm hungry (after I force him to do so)
  3. Because he cooks for me if I come home late from work
  4. Because he does the laundry every weekend (else he’ll have no clothes to wear the following week) and helps me with the housework (after a little nagging) and he irons his own clothes
  5. Because he buys and cuts fruits for me when I'm constipated
  6. Because he says the most ridiculous things which makes me laugh
  7. Because he is kind to animals and would buy a bun for a hungry stray dog he sees one at kopitiam
  8. Because he respects his elders, and teaches me to do the same
  9. Because he loves and looks after the dogs so I know he'll make a good father
  10. Because he loves me too

Happy 27th Birthday!~ Can't believe you are so old already.
